About us

Carthage Throwdown is an annual sports event held in Tunisia, designed for both amateur and professional functional fitness athletes, as well as enthusiasts of functional fitness. It unites high-level athletes, passionate sports fans, and a diverse audience who share common values such as self-improvement, teamwork, and physical well-being. Over the years, Carthage Throwdown has grown into one of the most prominent fitness events in the region, drawing attention from athletes and spectators across the globe.

Let’s take a look at the four editions that have shaped the legacy of Carthage Throwdown:

1st Edition - 2021

The inaugural Carthage Throwdown took place on December 18th and 19th, 2021, at Carthage CrossFit in Charguia 1, Tunis. This edition had no qualification system, and all participants were directly invited to compete in the final. Despite being the first edition, it still attracted 81 athletes and 400 spectators, setting the stage for future growth.

The focus of the first edition was to introduce the event and bring together athletes who share a passion for functional fitness. It was a celebration of fitness and sportsmanship, with participants giving their best in front of a supportive local crowd.

2nd Edition - 2022

The second edition of Carthage Throwdown was held on October 1st and 2nd, 2022, again at Carthage CrossFit, Charguia 1, Tunis. With no qualification system, the event saw a significant increase in participation. A total of 131 athletes competed in the final, and the event attracted 1000 spectators. This year, the event expanded its international reach, with athletes from six different countries taking part.

The 2022 edition marked a significant step forward in terms of both the size and international scope of the event. Athletes from diverse countries came together to compete, showcasing the growing popularity of Carthage Throwdown on the global fitness scene.

3rd Edition - 2023

In 2023, Carthage Throwdown reached new heights, with online qualifications being introduced for the first time. A total of 285 athletes registered for the online qualification, and 124 of them qualified for the final competition. The event took place on October 7th and 8th, 2023, at Tunis City Mall, and for the first time, the competition moved outdoors. The turnout was remarkable, with 2000 spectators cheering on the athletes.

The 2023 edition marked the transition to outdoor venues, offering a fresh and dynamic experience for both athletes and spectators. The event continued to grow in size, with athletes from 21 countries showcasing their talent, and the prize pool also saw a substantial increase.

4th Edition - 2024

The 4th edition of Carthage Throwdown took place from October 11th to 13th, 2024, at Le Club de Gammarth, Tunis. The qualification system continued from the previous year, with 315 athletes registering online and 210 qualifying for the final. The event attracted 2500 spectators, setting a new attendance record. Athletes from 16 countries participated, further elevating the event’s status on the international stage.

The 2024 edition marked a new milestone for Carthage Throwdown, with record participation and an even larger prize pool. The outdoor setting at Le Club de Gammarth provided a stunning backdrop for the competition, further solidifying the event’s reputation as one of the premier fitness competitions in the region.
